Family Film Sunday
Come to the Seguin Film & Arts Festival on Sunday, October 2, 2005 for an afternoon of family fun and nostalgia. Remember the days when Mom and Dad would leave you at the cinema with a million other kids while they went shopping? This time, bring the kids or grandkids along, and relive the experience of the weekend matinee.
We will begin at 3:30pm by screening some classic matinee serials, including:
Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor (1936)
In this short, Sindbad the Sailor (aka Bluto) proclaims himself the greatest sailor in the world and "the most remarkable, extraordinary fellow", a claim which is challenged by Popeye's arrival on his island with Olive Oyl and J. Wellington Wimpy in tow. Sindbad kidnaps Popeye's girlfriend Olive Oyl and challenges the Popeye to a series of obstacles to prove his greatness, including fighting a giant albatross, a two-headed giant, and Sindbad himself.

Undersea Kingdom (1936)
When a series of man-made earthquakes rock the world, a Navy lieutenant, Crash Corrigan, leads a submarine expedition to the ocean floor only to discover that the kingdom of Atlantis is under siege. This is Chapter 4 (Revenge of the Volkites) of the 12-chapter series.

Our Gang Follies of 1938 (1937)
Also known as The Little Rascals or Hal Roach's Rascals, this was a long-lived series of US comedy short films about a troupe of poor neighborhood children and the adventures they had together. This lavish production was the last two-reel Our Gang short, and was a parody of the Broadway Melody of 1938. Alfalfa, who aspires to be an opera singer, falls asleep and dreams that his old pal Spanky has become the rich owner of a swanky Broadway nightclub, where Darla and Buckwheat perform and make "hundreds and thousands of dollars."

See how trailers and advertisements used to look! The serials will be introduced by period advertisements and trailers for some familiar products.
Kids Costume Contest
Do you remember when every kid on the block wanted to be a cowboy? During the intermission, we will hold a Kids Costume Contest. All little (and big) cowboys and cowgirls are welcome! We will be awarding ribbons to the Best Little Cowboy, Best Little Cowgirl, and Most Original Costume.
The Yellow Rose of Texas (1944)
Family Film Sunday will conclude with a special screening of The Yellow Rose of Texas starring Roy Rogers, Dale Evans, and Trigger. Roy Rogers plays a frontier insurance investigator who is assigned to locate a company payroll stolen several years earlier. Working undercover, Roy poses as a singer on the showboat "Yellow Rose of Texas." The showboat's owner, Betty Weston (Dale Evans), is the daughter of the man who was arrested for the robbery. She's convinced that her dad is innocent, and Roy proves that she's right by capturing the genuine culprit.
