Festival Closes, Awards Announced.
The 2nd Annual Seguin Film & Arts Festival closed after three days packed with films, cultural events and other activities. The record audience saw a wide variety of films at the Palace Theatre ranging from classic feature films, to foreign language films, to short films competing in the Student and Independent Film Competitions.
"We are thrilled that this year's festival has been so warmly received," remarked Festival Director Denise Crettenden. "We are particularly proud that we had over 80% of the filmmakers in attendance to discuss their films with the audience. There was some terrific dialogue going on after each screening: filmmakers were learning from other filmmakers as well as getting instant reactions from the audience. It is fantastic to see this kind of attendance and this kind of dialogue going on in only our second year. We're showing people that independent films are worth seeing just as much as the big Hollywood films. We're already looking forward to a successful festival in 2007."
The Festival opened on Friday night with the screening of Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window. Independent films were screened throughout Saturday with the awards being presented on Saturday evening. A special late night Halloween screening of Reefer Madness, Night of the Living Dead, and House on Haunted Hill kept horror enthusiasts going until the early hours of Sunday morning. Sunday's line-up began with an afternoon screening of four Spanish-language shorts from Madrid. This was followed by screenings of the films entering in the Student Competition.
Other highlights included the Community Art Contest, which attracted a large crowd to the Heritage Museum to see the amazing works produced by talented local artists with the theme of "Self-Portrait". The festival closed on Sunday night with local band radiohalo playing at ChiroJava Espresso Bar.
