This film is a coherent compilation of several reels of camera test films. Various film stocks were used on old movie cameras from the 1940s to the 1990s. The three main film gauges used were regular 8mm, Super 8mm, and 16mm. As one will see, the images vary in quality based on the camera operation, film stock and film processing. These tests were done over a six year period in Seguin, Texas. The best footage was selected to be in the final film.
No video was included in this film. Video suits some artist's in their work. As in any artist's palette, it can vary from acrylic, oils, watercolor, or even finger painting. Using motion picture film is an important element to a film artist's palette. Talks about "film being dead" are rather short-sighted. It's a tool for an artist's palette...depending on what look they need and how to accomplish that look. The medium used to achieve that look is just that... a medium. "Film vs Video" is out the door. It's the painting that one wants to do. Seguin On Celluloid is a painting that I wanted to do... dirt and scratches and all. Motion picture film captures everyday life in a fashion of its own, hence this film.
